VIDEO: Mobara Drift

More drifting videos ’cause we just cant get enough. Shot on location by Aussie journo Alexi Smith, this drift session at Mobara Circuit had almost every car in attendance being an AE86. Super awesome grassroots drifting right here! Just listening to those 4A-G’s sing warms my heart!

HOTSTAFF: One Make Racing!

In Japan HOTSTAFF is a name synonymous with hard-tuned circuit-spec 4A-GE’s. Aptly self-exclaimed as a ‘Race Engine Manufacture Company’, HOTSTAFF is located in the north of Japan on the island of Hokkaido far from the neon lights and allure of busy Tokyo. It might be this seclusion from the majority of AE86 garages in southern Japan that makes HOTSTAFF and their customers so unique.

Being so far from the mainstream AE86 scene, the Hokkaido AE86 drivers compete in what they refer to as their ‘One Make Race’. Held a few times a year at Hokkaido Speed Park or HSP since 2005, the ‘One Make Race’ is a small but friendly competition between AE86 drivers to hone their skills and have some fun.

It hasn’t happened since 2006 but we’re hoping the drivers from Hokkaido are planning a comeback!

Check out the pics from the ’06 event after the jump.

Tec Art’s ‘Street-Spec’ Trueno

Some shots of the Tec-Art’s Street Spec Trueno from the D1 exhibition round at Odaiba last weekend to start your working week of AE86 style – It’s pretty nice for a drift car. Certainly a pity they don’t make more drift cars this nice here in Australia.

JCCA Parking Lot Madness!

Only in Japan is it possible to have a parking lot THIS cool! AE86’s were certainly NOT the main attraction at this years JCCA ‘Parking Lot Party’ although a few did sneak in. The mainstay? Hako’s, S30 Z’s, Bozu styled everything and so many other examples of classic JDM steel. If this is only the carpark for the event can you imagine what’s inside?

Check out the few AE86 pics from the carpark party and a link to the gallery after the jump.

2008 AE86 Festival Coming Up!

Not long now until the mecca of AE86 gatherings is upon us again! August 31st will see the insanity of the AE86 Festival in Okayama International Circuit return with the official AE86 N2 race, show and shine, swap meet and even an area to buy new parts right there at the show!

If you’re unfamiliar with the AE86 Festival which has been happening for over 10 years now, check out 7TUNE’s write up of last years event – you never knew such a heaven ever existed until now.

A perfect way to end the Japanese summer, so if you’re in Japan make the long trek out to OIC, it’s definitely worth it!

Powersports AE86

Our mates over at 7Tune have got a mini feature on the Powersports Levin Coupe. A mental track car in its own right, there is an entire write up with heaps of pics at 7Tune. Here’s an excerpt from the article to pique your interest.

The Powersports Levin looked and sounded great out on the circuit, it was revving noticeably higher than a lot of the other cars with its MSC Ignition Module governed 9,400rpm rev limit. The main contributor to that special sound were the Keihin FCR Carburetors. Normally found on motorcycles, the four in line FCR carburetors use flat slide throttle valves for the best in throttle response and flow control.

Team Mouse!!

Here you will witness the best AE86 drift team currently still together… The one and only Team Mouse in full flight… man i love the team drift action!! (taken from Drift Tengoku #37)

Taking Lightweight Too Far…

Apparently the guy driving this boro AE86 was one of the fastest on the track at a recent day at Ebisu Circuit. The car looked like this when he got there! Only in Japan folks!

A Convoy of Epic Proportions

It always make me happy to see this kinda stuff. I love the pristine condition of the cars but the dodgy rustyness of the neglected trailer! Only in Japan i suppose….

A Beer Baron’s Japan Photo Diary

Our Godzilla taming friends over at Skylines Australia have got one of the more entertaining and visually rich ‘Japan Diary’ threads i’ve ever seen – and trust me I’ve seen a few. Long time member (and now admin) Beer Baron, has some great photography skills and as such likes to shoot at all the best JDM hotspots. The pics have a great deal of Nissan’s but well worth a look regardless.

We’ve taken the liberty of posting some of the AE86 ones here, but visit the site for ALL of the Japanese pics – it’s a freakin’ good way to spend an hour or so!
