More Ebisu Matsuri AE86’s!

ebisumore_header

Coverage of events are always better when you have an AE86-maniac behind the lens!  Keisuke gives us the hachiroku insight into the infamous drift festival!

The Navi took me through some backroads that you would have never thought lead to Ebisu, For a few instances I had my doubts but in the end I got there and I had a smile as big as the moon. For me, the highlight of the event had to be riding in a AE86 from Team Peak on Kita course…

It has been a while since I last posted some news from Europe but we have been very busy over the past few weeks. We had a few trackdays in France and Germany (Nordschleife) with some interesting results.

Dino over @ SPEEDHUNTERS has got the third and final part of his coverage of the 2009 Ebisu Spring Drift Matsuri and there’s some great AE86 shots in there (especially this one of the twin RunFree Levins – airborne in unison!!) Check it out now! Parts one, two and finally three!

Tasmanian Drifting Devil

Four months of solid work has paid huge dividends for Mark Rogers, who has been building his 3S-GTE powered AE86 in preparation for Saturday’s second round of the Specialised Performance  Garage Tasmanian Drift Series. It was the car’s debut event and what a debut it was!

Hibino Qualifies First in Autopolis D1GP

hibino

Over the weekend it was a special cocktail of AE86 community love that brought everyone’s favourite Ebisu-jumping-drift master into the number one qualifying spot.  Driving Toshiki Yoshioka’s old red NOS-assisted 4A-GE, now painted in a striking coat of matte black (and sporting some wicked bolt on flares), Hibino worked his way into the top spot in preparation for Sunday’s showdown.

Unfortunately the race day was not as kind to him, as the final standings saw him in fourth position, knocked out in the semi by the eventual round winner (and AE86 legend himself) Youichi Imamura driving the Team BOSS Potenza-backed S15 . Fourth isn’t the win but still a position worthy of some praise – especially considering the calibre of top-notch sponsored teams up against him! Well done Hibino! Can’t wait for the exhibition round in Tokyo!

TOSHIKing’s New Clothes

2009_ebisu_d1gp_round_1_002

On Saturday, Ebisu Circuit was the venue for some intense practise in preparation for the upcoming D1GP round. Alexi from noriyaro was there and has a few snippets for us. Straight from TOSHIKing himself is this interesting piece of information:

This is what Toshiki Yoshioka’s red AE86 looks like now. Hand-painted skulls and stencils on flat black, and being driven by Tetsuya Hibino.

So those interested in purchasing the car might be surprised to know it’s now wearing a mean-ass paintjob and some new shoes.  Also interesting is the fact that Kouichi Yamashita (owner of Run Free) is back, and qualified for tomorrow driving the Weld JZX100 (not in an AE86 sorry guys!)

Check out the rest of the photos over @ Noriyaro.

Edit:

It seems there is two red demon AE86’s owned by TOSHIKing, even though Toshiki himself said to Alexi from Noriyaro, that the car was one and the same and that it was also ‘the one he took to America’. Apparently the confusion is with the ‘blue’ Espelir car and the ‘red’ one as we have been contacted by seller of Yoshioka’s ‘Red’ AE86 to which he requested we post this:

The black AE86 which is pictured in this article is NOT the red AE86 driven by Toshiki Yoshioka which is currently for sale and being advertised on The Tuners Group’s website.

The author of this article and the operators of the hachiroku.com.au website apologise to Toshiki Yoshioka, Works Bell and The Tuners Group for any confusion created by the incorrect information published previously in this article.

The red AE86 advertised on The Tuners Group website and the black AE86 pictured in this article are completely different cars.

So there you have it! Sorry intrepid readers, we were apparently wrong! The black car in shot was once red (notice the door jambs and radiator support) and the images on The Tuners Group site show a Red car featuring blue door jambs! The devil, it seems, is in the details!

First All-Toyota Swap Meet Wrap Up

swapmeet_header1

First up we would like to say a massive thank JDMyard for allowing us to use their shop parking for this event!! The first HR All-Toyota swap meet was a great success, with quite a lot of gear changing hands all day. In fact I saw a full quad throttle body set, with adapter and vacuum setup for bigport going for extremely cheap!

The quality or parts on offer was second to none, and quite a few people did a bank run to buy more stuff! BBQ was sizzling all day (thanks to yours truly) and thanks to the absolute scorcher of a Sunday, the tinnies of soft drink were gone by lunchtime! Almost everyone who brought parts along sold something, and the quality of cars that came to buy or sell ranged from immaculate coupes to all out drift monsters! With events this successful, we will hold another later in the year for sure!

Pics after the jump!
