Tanasije Kuvalja’s AE86 at Banja Luka Autodrome

Somewhat of a local legend, former olympic competitor for Yugoslavia and national cycling champion turned automobile master Tanasije Kuvalja sits in his AE86 in Zaluzani, Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina circa 1983.

Not content with only cycling victories, he turned his focus in 1977 to motorsport and was a multiple champion in the former Yugoslavia, first finding success in a Fiat 128 Sportscoupe and later an Alfa Romeo 156 ST.

Unfortunately, data for his success in the AE86 is somewhat hard to find, maybe some of our european readers can help shed some light?

True Grit: Mechanics Before Aesthetics

Brian Egan’s mantra seems to be based around this mentality – and his car certainly shows it. Having taken 9 trophies already in various events this year, to call it ‘spartan’ would be quite fitting.

Adventures at International Drift Series

It’s been a while but I wanted to finally share some of my past adventures at the International Drift Series (IDS) over the past 2 months here in Europe. So far there have been three runs of the pro class and I will give you a short rundown on whats been going on!

It has been a while since I last posted some news from Europe but we have been very busy over the past few weeks. We had a few trackdays in France and Germany (Nordschleife) with some interesting results.

Group A Endurance Racer AE86

Another AE86 squirreled away in an abbey (of all places) has been ‘found’ for us internetziens all to gaze upon. This time the boys from SPEEDHUNTERS have stumbled upon this little European gem from the days of 24Hours Spa race when ‘tin top’ touring cars roamed the track instead of the GT-spec monsters we see there now.  Apparently it was steered to victory several times and was one of a few AE86’s which competed in the endurance race! Antonio writes:

So we entered the old abbey, and Patrick led us downstairs, into what he said was the crypt – where they used to store dead people! Kinda creepy… but when we got to the bottom of the stairs and turned the corner, I was completely floored. Actually, Rod and Patrick were walking in front of me, because I stopped to take a photo of the stairway… and then I heard Rod say, “Wow. Antonio’s going to completely freak out.”
