AE86 Parts & Accessories Reviews

NAPREC Nagoya Precision

Some days you stumble onto the most useful things and today was no different.  In the midst of scouring the web for various parts for Project HR, I came across a company called NAPREC. Short for Nagoya Precision, this small but busy workshop in Hachiouji has turned out various engine parts for the veritable 4A-GE since its establishment in 1997.

Whilst lacking the bling of other major brands like TODA or HKS, the NAPREC gear is no fuss, offering cheaper products whilst retaining top quality production. Especially interesting is their custom cast aluminium sump pan, it’s design and finish is just so alluring, even though it’s only a sump pan!

Check the rest out, it’s certainly worth it!

Wear Your 86 Close To Your Heart

Every day i usually just do some random surfing of the internet and i happened to stumble upon an aspiring clothing designer, Jaidan Watson, who happens to have a luv for the humble Hachi Roku. Jaidan has used his design skill to come up with a collections of different car related t-shirts, but you can clearly tell he is an 86 fan!!!

Here is a link to Jaidans website where you can see the t-shirts for yourself:

350hp Turbo F22C Formula D AE86

First there was high powered NA 4A-GEs, then turbo were thrown in the mix for when you began to feel you needed that little bit more. But when the 4A-G no longer cuts it, people go in search off other manufactures to power the heart and soul of their own little hachi roku. Some decide a dirty Nissan engine would be perfect, but the new craze is the “VTEC yo!” F20/22C powerplant from the Honda S2000. Combining a 800kg ’86 with a 250hp powerplant that revs to 9000rpm and you have a reciepe for something really amazing.

However, this was not the case for John Russakoff, Formula D competitor and owner of JSP, who after competing in a Standard F22C found that it just didn’t cut the mustard. This saw him implement some changes to boost (pun intended) the output up to 350hp by bolting a Garrett GT28RS turbo. However this was no simple “bolt on” procedure. For the details I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

How To: T-50 Refresh!

The trusty T-50 residing in most of our 86’s are reaching the 25 year old mark. Where most people have treated their 25 year old 86s with some nice and tasteful modifications,  i’m damn sure that the good old gearbox has received nothing more than a lot of hard years of clutch kicks and flat changes if not much worse!

So we thought we would give you the know how to show some much needed love to your gearbox, with an in-depth “how to” showing everything from replacing worn out syncros and bearings to refreshing the gears themselves. All this magnificent knowledge is thanks to Andrew (aka assassin10000 on most 86/Toyota forums)

REVIEW: Greddy Type S Suspension

Greddy Type S Suspension System

Possibly the most crucial question that faces any AE86 driver and owner out there is:

What suspension should I get?

It’s a difficult question to answer as the response depends heavily on a drivers personal needs. Do you want just to use your car for track only, or drift, maybe street driving is your thing? The most likely reply is that it’s a combination of 1 or more these things.

Until recently most suspension setups for the AE86 have been a bit of a mix and match affair, with the most common setups using KYB, TRD TOKICO shocks and a various array of springs. Macpherson-Style coilover fronts are generally the norm and are handmade at a local suspension workshop or in the garage. While we’re not saying that this is necessarily a bad thing we are saying it can be a difficult and costly exercise to get right.
