i live in qld. i think the first or 2nd ae86 i ever saw was for sale in my home town of tewantin on the sunshine coast. seeing as it was for sale and sort of old i thought id check it out. was with a mate. we looked under the back. "its got a diff?!?! rwd!?!" sweet. i liked the idea of the corolla styling (inconspicuous) and the rwdness. did some reasearch and found out they had quite a following (though no in this contry at that stage).

car was advertised for $3900. that was too much. then a few months later for $3000. i went and took it for a test drive, spoke to the owner at lenght (who had no clue). offered $2000. he squirmed, then said he qould take $2100.

i ordered an 86 4age from japanese motorsport (only place i knew to ask really). the engine arrived on a pallet. i went down to super cheap and bought a chrome vanadium tool kit the next day and started. i think it took me around a month to do. i didnt do the wiring or exhaust, but thats it.

drove that car for a few years but it had other issues that made me not really want to put alot of time/money into it. steve-ae86 flew up from SA and bought that car from me. sorry steeve. haha nah that was a long time ago now. i think i bought that car when i was 18. im 24 now.

anyway ive had a couple since..

that is more of a "my 1st hachi story" maybe a new thread?

anyway i live in brisbane now. have just sorta started work at a mates workshop, i ride bmx, but not so much lately the ae86, ive known about garth building the new forum for quite sometime. more recently steve mentioned it to me while we were discussing how lame "some" ke70 owners are. yes i do own one...

hows that?

Japan!
IM josh, and i drive 'that' pink 86 that gets around all over the country side. Live on the gold coast, but am temporarily on holiday havin fun in japan. i bought the sprinter in about oct 04' after i smashed my mr2 on the way home from Jamboree.... it was only about a week until shane (bingham) got me to toss the suspension out and we started playing with it from there. was never really into it before i got it, and it was only temporary until i fixed the mr2.....

when the $age went in around decembe 04, and an lsd in january 05' there was no turning back, and the mr2 was sold to finance the rebuild from yellow shitter to pink beast, in june 05' when i lost my license. ^ months suspension, and the rebuild took 6 months and 3 days, so was pretty happy with it. Now i love the cars so much i would be hard pressed to change as my own choice, i simply like the affordability and competativness of them in drifting, even if they need to be boosted, they still are great.. ultimate would be a FCR carbd version, but mine will do for now.....

love driving it as much as possible, and have learn HEAPS about cars in general and hachis along the way, and being here im only learning more, so cant wait to get hokme and play with my beast again, and hopefully by the time the 86 meet happens it will have undergone its next change/upgrade and will look somewhat differant again, just to keep all the peeps out there on their toes......

Hey junkies,

I was a former junkie, rehab's for quitters so I'll be owning the cleanest Hachi in Sydney soon (surely quicker than it took Garth to get this biatch off the ground and onto the interweb).

I love the cool invisible submit thread/post buttons. You have to use your psychic poweres to guess it right every time.

Hi All, Thanks for the invitation Dimitri & Anthony

My Names Chris

I have been racing my AE86 in the QLD Improved Production championship sine 1998.

Got my first taste of the AE86's back in the good old days of "real Group A racing" when i saw the TTA coupes & Bob Holdens hatch's running at Lakeside as a teenager, I remember saying to my old man at the time ill have one of them one day.

And sure enough 1 year after getting my open license I had my first bronze/gold 1983 4AC AE86.

After about 3 months of 4AC powah a 1/2 cut was purchased and the conversion to JDM 16v 4AG happened. Not may people knew how to wire them in back then so the option to put a MoTeC M4 on the car was made.

There were not very many 86's around in 95 / 96 that had the JDM engine, gearbox, diff package in them and certainly upset many people on the street, That car was heaps of fun as a daily driver and got me hooked on racing as i would run it regularly at lap sprints, driver training days, skid pan, drags what ever was on id be there.

The car was retired recently to make-way for a more suitable "drive to work car" and has been sitting on blocks for the last 2 years, had to move it recently off to a mates shed as we ran out of space at home, and sure enough put some juice in a good battery plugged the ECU in and she fired right up (was a pretty big blue smoke session) but hey 2 years of sitting un touched i was very impressed.

few quick laps of the block to bring back memories and i soon realised just how much fun these cars are :D

1997 saw the build up commence of the Improved production racecar, it started life as a GT Apex import (back when 86's were still relatively unknown and didn't attract the lets charge 2x as much tax)

We hit the track in 1998 and have never looked back since

Small list of my success with the race car below.

COS MotorSport AE86 Levin
05,04,03,02,00,99,98 QLD IPRA 1600cc Champion
05 QLD IPRA 2000cc Outright Champion

Nice list of credentials at the bottom there, Chris.

Well, I guess my sojourn into AE86-land was more of a natural progression than anything. I've had the car for a couple of years now, having bought it as a shell off a mate who had it in his garage for many years. Prior to that, I'd owned a Leyland Mini, a red bridgport RX4, a white (huge) extend port RX4, a yellow 13B turbo RX4 (on my Ps :D ), a cammed 2L Mk 2 Escort, a mildport RX7, a bridgeport/turbo RX3 sedan, an R32 Skyline, and a Landcruiser troop carrier.
Plans to take the troopy around this great country of ours landed in a heap due to relationship issues, so decided to drown my sorrows in a new project car.
Pissed off the troopy, and had the AE86 towed over. 20V conversion started the same day - on the street! Took around 3-4 weeks to complete the swap, and with a JDM rear end, GAB Gymkhana/RSR suspension and 15x7 Superlights, she was on the road. Shared many a moment on both the Old Pacific Hwy, Oran Park, and Wakefield with all four billet trumpets screaming away.
Always had plans to make the car a bit nicer than it was (it was a real pig), but never thought I could do it myself. Decided to go for more power, so bolted in a CA18DET a litte over a year ago in the hope of around 140-150rwkW. Rather than being a month-long conversion, it's only been around the block a couple of times since, but in that time I've re-done almost everything on the whole car!
I now work for Otomoto Pty Ltd, writing for Zoom, High Performance Imports, and Drift Battle magazine, as well as helping in the retail side of the business.

Wow Chris! It wasn't you that I bought my AE86 GTV Levin off was it? Do you have a daughter that also races?

Garth: Yeah you know me... I like to make big calls. It's that gay aim for the moon but if you fail at least you'll land amongst the stars shit.

Wollongong... The land of slides...
Hey every1 my name is Blake
I live in wollongong and currently the proud owner of a hachi.
Got into drift (more like gravel Slides lol) when dad used to let me drive his austin around the neighbourhood when i was 13 lol. First car i did sum drifting in was a volvo 242gt (hand me down car - i miss it so  )
First car i purchased was a 77LX hatch torana purchased when i was 17 and went in for 500 hp just after i turned 18.
Other than that iv had 244 gl ovlov, rx4, r31 and a MKII Supra (recently desceased  )

As for wat i do for a living.... i live :D

Hobbies go for anything motorsport, and attempting to drfit anything with wheels at least once lol

I chose the 86 cause of its weight, im a firm beleiver of weight being the biggest killa in motorsport (to me less weight = less money spent to go faster)

I Heard of HR.com from craig aka Night Devil
Its good to be here :D

Anyways thats it, wat a waste of words lol

CIAO!! :D

Howdy all my name is Daniel, I reside in ze Harbour City. :)

I bought my first Sprinter in early 2003 I think, a mate had just bought one, and I wanted something rwd and light, with scope for modifications, and hey presto the AE86 fitted those requirements pretty well. I thrashed it around for a while with the 4ac in there, actually probably for around 18 or so months, then bought a gze and took the AE86 off the road, and I think's it's been off the road for about 18 months lol, just got lazy and didn't do much to it until recently.

It now has a T-series arse, redlines, S13 coilover suspension and brakes, few other bits and pieces, just going to put a 100kw in there as a daily hack when I get around the pulling the motor out from the side of the house lol.

I purchased my second Sprinter at the start of the year, it's Des' old purple beasty, "DRFTME" were the plates he had on it. I was going to go drifting in my red one but didn't want to smash it up, so bought the purple one to go and have some fun on the track with, it's changed a fair bit compared to when Des had it, got 2-way in a T-series, W58, Microtech and total re-wire, no more big kit either, just stock bumpers now. Adam at JEM just finished with it, but it's having clutch issues, so got to sort that then take it back to JEM for a final tune, then I'll head onto the track. Can't wait, gonna be fuuuuun.

Cheers all. :)

Adelaide
morning everyone..

my name is peter, though all know me as Des, hailing from adelaide, south australia.

back in 1999 I took my first ride in an ae86, I was instantly consumed by this car. It belonged to my best mate, and we spent many a night exploring the adelaide hills in it.

fast forward 2 years, and I purchase my first (and only) ae86, as a shell.
thus the work had begun. and it still hast stopped.
I guess i'm just a slow worker.

anyway, in the rest of my time, I work a mind numbing job, and try to offset that with intersts such as stencil work, printmaking, adventure video games, (shenmue anyone?) and conspiring with friends to become victims of the terrorist hotline.

cheers.

Hey, I'm 32....at the moment.....Yes Im old.

I have owned a few cars and bikes over time, but basically when I bought my hachi, I was looking for a car to "play with" suspension wise. I had had some time playing with motorcycle setup, but other than an old 504 in semi rally trim, I had never really played with car setup, and the Hachi seemed a perfect option.
That, and i could take it drifting to test my setup on track

Now what has begun as a project in suspension setup, has turned into a bit of an all consuming passion, with random idea of expensive engine mods floating around in my head. I only wish I had more money.

Anyway, Ill fill you in on the rest of the details and latest news about my ride in the Members Ride section when I get to posting it up.

As a few of you may know by now my name is Justin, I am into motorsport and a few other sports surfing, cycling. I am 34 married with a near 15 year old son, planning another child soonish.

I had been doing some motorcross for a while..... and well I wasnt too good at it, I had a bit of a stck at a race meet, the throttle jammed wide open goingover a table top.... yeah the first time I nearly cleard it! but I found out the hard way you shouldnt land on your head! So I bought my first sprinter in 1998,I actually baught 2 in about a month, the first was to convert to a race car, and the second it was a rolling shell with some goodies on it all it needed was my engine and a box and it was ready to race, well so I thought anyway! ( I will cover this in more deatail in the members rides. I sold the roady and got stuck into the race car.

I have been racing most years since 2001.

Melbourne, Australia yo
My name's Jay.

Those who don't know me well will ask if i'm a initial D fan (i'm actually not considering my nick) and if i'm the dude who had his car stolen.
Those who do, know i i help organise Melbourne hachi events.

I bought my hachi with no expectation and liked it.

I study full time at Monash, and i run my own independent comic producing/ publishing company in my spare time.
I have plans to build a TA/RA 23/28 and race that in the adelaide classics in the near future (sprinter's dont qualify :p) That's all for now i think.
