Doing It Right

You know you are doing your project car right when you unexpectedly win a prize as No. 1 JDM car on a carshow. At least, that’s what happened to AEU86 member Oldskull after taking his almost finished levin project to a car show to promote his buddies shop Raceminded.

He did put some stickers of his webshop on my car so I was there with him and other club members. I parked the car and we got chilling at his tent where we would sell all his stuff. Suddenly later at that day someone came to me and let me know that I need to pick up my prize as my car had won “No. 1 JDM car”. Really funny to know that I won the prize.

Then imagine this car won the best classic youngtimer prize on the Japanese Classic Sunday only one year before when it looked almost bone stock in OEM panda-red scheme and only a set of Konig Rewinds.

Hugo’s Hotness

Good friend of NZ AE86 maniac (and HR’s buddy) Keisuke, Hug-o at GarageRS is equally as crazy about hachirokus and evidently also as talented with getting things sideways. Hug-o’s Levin hatchback wears some pretty tidy dress–up parts for what most people would deem ‘too-nice’ for a drift car, but we love any AE86 that looks this clean and goes this hard!

Hug-o has compiled a bunch of his best photos of a recent trackday venture over at his blog, GarageRS – so check it out and let him know which one is YOUR favourite!

LAWSON (Plus) Levin

Convienience stores in Japan, or as the natives refer to them ‘konbini’, are a staple part of any Nihon ’86ers life. Be it late night stops while on the road between mountain passes, talking shop in the carpark or stocking up on snacks for that long trip to the circuit, they certainly come in handy.  With names like FamilyMart, AMPM, CircleK, MiniStop, 7-Eleven and Lawson here, these dens of super-consumer-heaven are no shortage of cheap and tasty eats and super bizzarre drinks (Pepsi Ice Cucumber anyone? Bleh!) plus heaps of other particularly Japanese services (post office courier service anyone?).

Rod over at RoadsterDrift snapped this tough kouki Levin coupe on it’s way to Motorland Suzuka sitting pretty in the Lawson Plus (yet another konbini variation!) parking area. Make sure to hit up his site for the rest of the set and bookmark his site too: he’s not just a Miata fan you know!

Looking Good In 1990

Looking good in 1990
Just a random picture I stumbled upon at photozou.jp. My first thought was “Looking good in 1990” and no, that did not apply to the guy in the picture.

Just think about what our current idea is of a good looking hachi! Even though this guy upgraded his factory stock Levin Apex twincam with a set of 15 inch Weds Albinos, it is far, far from the picture above…

ONESHOT: Asayan’s AE86

noriyaro_asayan_ae86_msc_maze_001

It’s a Coffee-inspired, Hayashi Street Finned, curb hopping maniac! Alexi @ Noriyaro has a couple of stories up about this creamy coupe.

This rather neat AE86 belongs to a guy who goes by the nickname “Asayan”. Asayan works at a body shop in Osaka called “Looking”, who are well known for their extremely stylish paintjobs. Not only that, Looking are obsessed with drifting as well, and run several “HitomiGo” events a year at Meihan Circuit, named after Hitomi, the other half of Looking.

So check out the statics (when it’s not hanging five @ Maze Circuit) and motion shots (when it is) over at Noriyaro!

A Little ’86 Trivia: Levin Rotating Grille

grille

AEU86 admin (and all-round JDM freak!) Banpei has a great FAQ style article on one of those wacky AE86 optional extras: the Levin rotating grille! If you simply HAVE to know about everything ’86 (and I’d like to think you all do!) then head over there and check it out!

Jason Sherring’s 4A-GTE Levin

blackgte

The boys over at DK (thats Drift Kulture for you who aren’t in the know) have got a feature up on a pretty trick turbo hachiroku.

Having worked for an import company before, Jason has been able to get his hands on a number of unique parts to add to the ’86, which has helped make it the car it is today. A few parts to mention is the 15×8 Work Equipe 01’s and SSR MKIII’s, a GReddy 4A-GE turbo kit with a TD05, as well as DRoop coilovers.

Sound good? Then head over there and read the rest!

Hachi Roku Hanami

’86 blogger Hatti gets in on the sakura season with some hanami of his own ‘Corolla’ Levin. Trying my best to get a high resolution of this one for a wallpaper so until then, enjoy!
